Nearly 70 years before the ships sailed for Jamestown Virginia the American Southwest was already being explored. In 1540 Don Francisco Vasquez de Coronado was underfoot and searching for the seven cities of Cibola. So if you look at it, the southwest of America is where the first European stepped across, and American History began....Come along as we examine the history of Spanish exploration, expansion of early missions, Southern Emigrant Trail, the Butterfield stage routes, early gold mining and the taming of the west. Dezert Magazine will also show the trails, missions, and places where this rich history happened. We will also talk to archeologists and museums, to see what they have uncovered and what they have learned over the last 470 years.
